Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)
Platelet-Rich Plasma has many cosmetic applications which include:
- Revitalizing dull, damaged skin
- Refining the texture of the skin
- Firming up and lifting sagging skin
- Evening out pigmentation
- Smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles
- Camouflaging scars
- Restoring hair loss and hair thinning
It compliments the use of dermal fillers such as Juvederm because PRP addresses the superficial layers of skin itself which is more difficult to target by fillers. After treatment, you’ll notice a softer, more radiant look to your face with diminished fine lines and wrinkles (frown lines, crow’s feet, laugh lines, etc.). The treatment even addresses mild scarring and acne scars on the dermis.
How does PRP work?
The process relies on the body’s regenerative ability to repair damaged tissue, foster collagen production, and plump the surrounding area. This is through the use of Platelet-Rich Plasma extracted from the patient’s blood. During the procedure, a small amount of blood is drawn from the patient and ran through a centrifuge, which separates the Platelet-Rich Plasma from the red blood cells. Afterwards, this Platelet-Rich Plasma is re-injected into the treatment site where growth factors stimulate the body’s natural healing process.
PRP Hair Loss Restoration
Platelet-Rich Plasma treatment is an effective and minimally invasive solution for hair growth restoration and hair loss prevention. Hair follicles respond to changes in hormones, stress, medications, among a multitude of other factors, and these can lead to hair thinning and hair loss.
The plasma used in PRP injections is rich in healing growth factors which signal cells to function and regenerate. This stimulates the activity of hair follicles and dormant hair into the growth stage improving thickness and density. During the anagen (growth) phase, the hairs are more strongly rooted in the follicles and actively grow more rapidly.

A dramatic duo
Platelet-Rich Plasma can also be used in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures to maximize effectiveness. Most notably, PRP is used with Micro-Needling to infuse the Platelet-Rich Plasma into the targeted area to promote quicker and more effective healing, thus ensuring better results.
Micro-Needling involves rolling a specialized handheld device embedded with tiny surgical grade stainless steel needles over the skin which creates thousands of micro-channels and penetrates the upper dermis responsible for generating collagen and elastin. This uses the skin’s natural healing process to release growth factors, stimulate fibroblasts, and increase cell proliferation.
Micro-Needling, also known as Medical Needling and Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), is an innovative non-invasive collagen stimulation procedure which promotes a healthy, vibrant glow. At NCBC Med-Laser, we have refined our skin needling technique using the latest technology and proven methods to bring out the potential of your skin while minimizing discomfort and downtime.
